ESC – Value Added Functions

ESC – Increased safety and comfort on demand.
Regarding vehicle stability, ESC has all bases covered: Steerability while braking at the limit by implementing ABS control, thanks to ASR no spinning wheels by drive off on slippery surfaces, as well as a corrective action when under- or oversteering.

This is made possible by the fact that the sensors and actuators of ESC can actively control brake pressure increases as well as decreases on each wheel separately. Based on this principle, Bosch offers a set of valuable safety and comfort functions additionally to the standard ESC functionality:

  • HBA: Hydraulic Brake Assistant ensures optimal deceleration in a panic brake situation by actively increasing brake pressure.
  • HDC: Hill Descent Control ensures comfort when driving down a hill, particularly on steep grades with off road vehicles.
  • HHC: Hill Hold Control avoids vehicle roll back when driving off on a gradient by pre-applying brake pressure.
  • RMF: Rollover Mitigation Functions reduce the roll over tendency of vehicles with a high center of gravity, i.e. SUVs, off road vehicles, and small transporters.
  • TSM: Trailer Sway Mitigation avoids dangerous trailer sway by applying brake interventions at the appropriate point in time.
