ESC-Development

ESC-Development

From a requirement to a widespread solution.
In almost all vehicle classes – passenger cars, medium heavy trucks, sports cars and special vehicles, ESC has established itself as standard equipment.

The large variation amongst vehicle configurations, the request of automotive manufacturers for specific ESC performance requirements as well as the implementation of additional functions for increased safety and comfort, require many development phases. This is necessary in order to deliver a vehicle and customer specific ESC system.

During development, Bosch ESC is adapted to the individual characteristics of each specific vehicle model. The necessary interfaces like CAN, Flex-Ray etc. are defined to enable the communication between the ESC and for example the engine controllers. In addition to the application relevant parameters of ESC, the following areas increase the spectrum of vehicle specific function development:

  • The implementation of vehicle speed dependent parameters.
  • The implementation of sport mode and other customer specific ESC control levels.
  • The integration of external software, i.e. tire pressure monitoring and control of an electronically controlled differential.
  • Adaptation of ESC on new vehicle concepts, i.e. BRP Spyder.

Like in the case of the three wheeler, new concepts like hybrid and electric vehicles present not only a new challenge but also new areas for innovative ESC implementation: i.e. the advantages of separate motors on each wheel can be used for torque vectoring, the dynamic proportioning of propulsion forces during cornering, to clearly improve agility and handling.

Bosch also guarantees the use of the most modern methods and quality standards with the implementation of CMMI level 3 processes.
