Active Safety System

Active Safety Systems

Rescued just in time.
Since the introduction of the Electronic Stability Control ESC, the number of accidents worldwide has decreased. This is according to statistics originating from transportation agencies in various countries, as well as research from various well known vehicle manufacturers. Bosch is continuously working on innovative, lifesaving driver assistance functions.

With the use of a long distance radar sensor, active safety systems can now support ESC functionality with an important function in order to reduce the risk of a collision. In the event of an unavoidable obstacle, the magnitude of the collision can also be decreased.

  • Predictive Collision warning PCW: The driver is warned of an imminent accident through the use of acoustical and optical signals as well as a vibrating brake pedal.
  • Emergency brake assist EBA: If the vehicle is insufficiently braked by the driver before an obstacle, the brake pressure and therefore deceleration is increased in order to avoid the accident.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking AEB: If a collision is unavoidable, emergency braking of the vehicle is requested. Due to this added deceleration, the kinetic energy and therefore the magnitude of the impact are reduced. For this function, a video camera is used in combination with the long range radar in order to comprehend the environment in which the vehicle is moving.

These systems will be more widespread in the upcoming years and therefore result in a further decrease of accidents.
